Rhys attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center.
Rhys Ifans has performed in many theatrical stage productions including Hamlet, Marching Song, As You Like It, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Smoke, Poison Pen, Thyestes, Don Juan In Soho, Beautiful Thing, Under Milk Wood, King Lear, Protest Song, A Christmas Carol, Exit the King, On Bear Ridge and more.
He has worked with NT National Theatre, Royal Court Theatre, Royal Exchange Theatre, Open Air Theatre,Regent's Park, Theatr Clwyd and more.
Rhys was set to perform in To Kill A Mockingbird as Atticus Finch but due to schedule
conflicts. He was replaced by Rafe Spall.

Rhys Ifans was asked to serve as President of the Rhyl Children's Theatre Club in Denbighshire Wales (2012). Ifans says, "This is an excellent project, especially in its emphasis on young people. I'm proud to be its president as I was involved with members whilst in the Clwyd Youth Theatre."
